Create Your Purpose
“He who has a why to live can bear almost any how.”
Find what you’re good at and pursue it. If you can make a career out of it, even better. If you live for your weekends and vacations, you’re doing it all wrong. Also, pursuing your passion gives you a purpose, and a purpose gives you a why. This is important, especially if you're a humanist and don't believe in any sort of divine-given purpose. We, as humans, control our own fate. We have to find what we love, embrace it, and create purpose in our own lives. Life isn't about finding ourselves, it's about creating ourselves. We give our own lives meaning because meaning otherwise doesn't necessarily exist. Just because we're born into this world doesn't mean our lives are supposed to be meaningful, have clear direction, have a purpose, or have aim. You might be naturally good at something and think it's your destiny, but the fact of the matter is you're just good at it and if you're smart you'll hone your natural skill and turn it into a good life for yourself. And if that's the case, consider yourself lucky from a genetic perspective. Unfortunately, most people aren't born genetically lucky. Nobody said life would be good to us or fair for that matter. We're not supposed to be happy by any universal law. I mean, I much rather be happy than miserable, but it's not necessary to live. Life is life, mostly meaningless unless otherwise changed by us - if we want to. We're just multi-celled, sentient beings born to a random geographical location on Earth to two people who decided it'd be a good idea to have a child. That's it. You're here now, don't take this life for granted. Make the most of it.
“My life has no purpose, no direction, no aim, no meaning, and yet I’m happy. I can’t figure it out. What am I doing right?”
“...the saddest thing in life is wasted talent...”
